HEY GUYS HAVE A BEDTIME STORY. :|||

beastly, yunho/changmin/ pg-13
beauty and the beast au.

Once upon a time, there lived a pair of brothers in the kingdom of Soo Man. The eldest, Heechul, has known as the mouthiest beauty of all the land, hhis sharp tongue only matched by the absurdity of his fashion sense. The younger and infinitely more sensible, Yunho, was as manly as a man could be, tall and strapping with lithe muscles, and was well known as one of the kingdom’s best fighter.

One day, Heechul returned from one of his many journeys of conquests (“look at this gorgeous face, how can you deny it?!”) in a harried state. His clothes were torn and his hair was horribly askew. At once, Yunho knew that something was amiss, and rushed up to his brother with concern.

“Hyung, what on Earth happened to you?” he demanded, plucking a stray leaf tangled in Heechul’s hair. “are you hurt?!”

With a huff, Heechul slaps his hand away. “I’m fine,” he snaps, then softens at the worry in his dear younger brother’s voice. “I’m fine, really, it’s just that – something horrible has happened!”

There is a dramatic pause.

“Okay,” says Yunho slowly, “what happened?”

“Someone, no – something had denied me!”

“Hyung, you really have to stop harassing people into giving you things, you know? It’s not very nice.”

As usual, Heechul waves him off with a sniff of disdain. “Excuse you,” he snaps, “I am fabulous, people can’t help that they want to bestow me of things befitting of my beauty. And anyway, what I met wasn’t a person. It was – a monster.”

Yunho gasps.

“Exactly! It was a hideously tall creature, even taller than yourself, and was covered in long, unruly fur!” Heechul narrows his eyes. “And the worst part is, he insulted my clothes.”

“… Oh.” Yunho blinks at the bright pink blouse he has on, and wouldn’t have faulted the monster if it’d been a person. Since it’s a monster on the other hand… “I suppose you want me to slay it?”

Beaming, Heechul thumps him hard on the shoulder. “Good boy, I knew I could count on you!”

And this is how Yunho sets out on an adventure, to slay the terrible Beast.

*

The forest the beast resides in is dense with tall trees and thick bushes that hide any path there once was. Ordinarily, Yunho’s sore lack of directional prowess would have gotten him lost, but today he is in luck. Scraps of bright pink fabric hang from pointy branches, and Yunho manages to follow them until he picks up the sweet scent of flowers, the same that surrounded Heechul. Following the trail, he comes upon a large iron gate, beyond which lies a large garden of roses.

Upon closer inspection, the rusty lock on the gate had been yanked open.

Yunho heaves a sigh – he really should talk to Heechul about these habits of his – before entering the garden.

“Hello?” he calls out, “anyone here?”

No answer; Yunho creeps deeper into the garden, shoving aside wild, unruly branches as he goes. A thorn nicks him and gouges deep into his flesh.

“Ow,” he hisses, inspecting his injured hand.

“Serves you right,” a voice scoffs behind him, “for trespassing on private property!”

With a gasp, Yunho swirls around, brandishing his sword. There isn’t a single person in sight but in front of him looms a monster as terrible as Heechul had described, large and foreboding, thick hair covering every inch of his body. Its eyes are an angry red, and it reveals a set of sharp fangs as it growls.

Yunho leaps into action, lashing out with his sword. The beast is too quick! It dodges, and rears up on its hind legs, and roars. The sound is deafening but Yunho isn’t fazed. Again, he strikes forward, and manages to tear a wound into the beast’s hand.

“Ow, fuck!” the beast shouts. Yunho stumbles to a haul – wait, what? Did the Beast just speak?

“Jesus, fuck, that stings,” the Beast rumbles. “Shit man, why the hell are you playing with sharp objects?! Someone can get hurt!”

“You’re not a someone!” Yunho blurts out. “You’re just, a beast!”

The shaggy fur of the Beast’s face does nothing to conceal how massively unimpressed he looks. “I’m wearing clothes!”

“So what? Clothes don’t make a man! Even dogs get forced into clothes sometimes!”

“So you’d hurt puppies? You’re into animal abuse?” The Beast shakes his head, thoroughly disappointed. “Not cool man, not cool.”

“I’m not - ! Argh, okay, fine.” Yunho sulks. “I’m sorry I attacked you, alright?”

“Yes, that’s what’s going to stop the bleeding: apologies.” The Beast makes to rolls his eyes, but his arm brushes against a prickly rose bush and he cringes instead.

“You’re right, of course!” Sheepishly, Yunho rubs at the back of his head. Then inspiration strikes, and he seizes the Beast’s hand, unmindful of the claws and the fur. “I’ll help you patch up your wound! Come, you’ve got a first aid kit at home right?”

He begins stomping up towards the mansion and the Beast - stunned that any man dare touch him with such lack restraint - follows.

*

The mansion is dull and dusty, looking as though it hasn’t been occupied in years. Yunho enters reluctantly, sword still unsheathed and in his uninjured hand. Up ahead, the Beast has taken the lead, mumbling under his breath the whole time.

” – and he just barges onto my property! To steal my roses!” he huffs. He directs Yunho to take a seat on an old, worn out sofa, then wanders into the next room, voice echoing behind him. “And now he sends his brother to slay me? The nerve of that man!”

“Uhm, yeah, Heechul’s like that, sorry,” Yunho apologizes once the Beast comes back, first aid kit in hand. It looks too ancient to be safe, but the bandages aren’t too yellowed so he accepts it all the same. Very quickly, he wraps it around the small cut on his hand. The bleeding’s stopped a while ago, and it looks like it’d heal up fast. There, done!

When he looks up, the Beast is struggling with his own bandages, trying to wrap them around his wound one handed. Guilt overtakes reason, and he finds himself reaching out. The Beast jerks his arm back, and then grunts in pain as it jolts his arm.

“Here, just let me help with that.” Slowly, under the Beast’s suspicious gaze, Yunho takes his injured arm into his lap, sets the bandages aside to part his fur, and inspect the wound. It is quiet for a moment, as Yunho carefully wipes off the blood and apply antiseptic to the angry cut. With careful, steady moments, he neatly wraps the Beast’s arm in bandages.

“There, done!” Just as Yunho lifts his head, he catches glimpse of a man for a split second, back straight and chin held high. He blinks in surprise, and the man vanishes, leaving only the Beast again, watching him quietly.

“Thank you,” the Beast mumbles. He stands, waves a hand towards the door. “I suppose you need to leave now.”

Perhaps it is the lonely dip of his chin, or that phantom image of a man that pricks his interest so; Yunho finds himself answering, “no, actually. I have nowhere to be right now, shall I stay until your arm has healed?”

The Beast hesitates, but widens his eyes as if hopeful. Hastily Yunho adds, “it is my fault after all. Please, let me help you until you are well again.”

“Alright, fine,” the Beast agrees at last. He walks back to the sofa, and sits gingerly next to Yunho. “My name is Changmin, by the way. If you’re staying here, I guess you should know that.”

Yunho smiles in response.

*

As it turns out, Yunho is a terrible guest.

After growing up in the same house as Heechul, he knows how to pick up after himself and not make too much of a mess but – that’s exactly the problem. Yunho is just barely meets the base requirements of being neat, and leaves the Changmin absolutely no room to complain. There is never a mess, per say, it just doesn’t stand up to Changmin’s impossible standards. And there isn’t any way of getting angry over it without seeming petty.

Yunho knows this because he sees Changmin growling under his breath when he thinks that Yunho is out of earshot, or he catches the lslight twitch of his big brown eyes under all that fur.

But Changmin has yet to kick him out, so that’s a good thing, right? The wound’s healing up nicely, and technically doesn’t need that much attention anymore, but Changmin doesn’t seem to be in much of a hurry to chase him out.

Surprisingly, Yunho doesn’t seem to be in much of a hurry to leave either. Changmin is, perhaps, not the easiest person to live with, but he has his moments. The longer he stays, the less he feels inclined to leave. The mansion is old and creepy at times but Changmin, for all that he is grumpy, makes him feel comfortable. Very comfortable.

“Need I remind you,” Changmin rumbles, “that I am not a carpet?”

Yunho groans a bit, then flops over onto his back, head still pillowed on Changmin’s chest. “Fluffy,” he mumbles, caught up with the morning papers, “really comfy.”

“Well,” Changmin sighs, “at least this curse is good for something.”

That perks Yunho’s interest. “Curse?”

Changmin blinks as though surprised, then sighs. “Yeah, I guess you deserve to know,” he says. “I didn’t always look like this, but I accidentally ate an apple belonging to a witch. And she got really pissed off, saying that I couldn’t do anything I want just because I was handsome. So she did - ” he waves a paw at himself half heartedly, ” - this to me.”

“Huh, sounds like a lesson Heechul needs to learn.” Yunho laughs as Changmin huffs at the name. “Is there any way to break the curse?”

A curiously sheepish look passes over Changmin’s face, but before he can answer, there is a loud crash.

At once, Changmin jerks upright, sending Yunho tumbling off and the newspapers into disarray. Another bang, then a shout. Lips pulled back in a snarl, Changmin leaps to his feet

“No, wait!” Yunho stares imploring up at him. “I know that voice, he’s not an enemy!”

At that, Changmin falters. “Who on Earth can that - ”

And this when Heechul tumbles into the living room

*

“I can’t believe that I send you on a quest to slay the Beast,” Heechul spits, tugging hard at Yunho’s arm to get him away from it, “and you get tricked into being his captive instead!”

Prickling, Changmin makes to rise to his feet, but Yunho pushes him back down onto the sofa. He sends him an apologetic but firm look, and then turns back to Heechul.

“Hyung, you don’t understand!” He yanks his arm out of Heechul’s grasp and puts a hand on Changmin’s shouder, squeezing in reassurance. “Changmin’s a nice person, you can’t just judge him on how he looks!”

“Of course I can,” Heechul argues, “when it looks like he’s a fucking monst - ”

“Don’t! Yunho snaps, fist clenched tight. “Do not call him that! Changmin is a good person, no matter what he looks like!”

Heechul opens his mouth, then he shuts it. Then he sighs. “I suppose you’ve made friends with him?” He raises an expectant eyebrow; Yunho nods furiously. “And you want to stay with him?”

Yunho nods again, and Changmin looks up, surprised.

“… Fine,” Heechul says. “Well, come on, then, get your stuff together. We’re leaving.”

“Hyung, did’t you hear me? I said I’m staying - ”

“With him, power of friendship, inner beauty, yada yada yada, sheesh!” Heechul rolls his eyes. “I said fine, you can do that, but you can’t possibly want to live in this shit hole, so we are leaving. Got it?”

“You’ll let him live with us?” Hopeful, Yunho turns to Changmin. “Do you want to?”

“I haven’t left in so long.” It’s heart wrenching, how such a large body can look so small and withdrawn. Changmin bites his lip. “I don’t know if I could - ”

“You’ll be fine. And I’ll be with you,” Yunho says, with all the confidence of a warrior willing to fight for him. It’s kind of ridiculous, the knight protecting the dragon he is to slay; Changmin manages a smile, and agrees.

Yunho and Changmin huddled in the cart as Heechul perches elegantly on the horse, they ride off into the distance together.

The End –

“Wait what?” Heechul’s shrill voice cuts through from the kitchen, “what sort of lousy ending is this? That jerk hasn’t paid for ruining my clothes! And he’s still of furry and shit! Bestiality does not belong in happy endings!”

Changmin doesn’t even look up. Yunho, on the other hand, shoots up, stunned.

“Oh right!” he exclaims. “We never did break your curse!”

Slowly, Changmin turns to him and says, “yes, that’s right, duh?” and wriggles his claws at him.

The expression splashed across Yunho’s face is devastating. He twists around on the sofa and takes Changmin’s hands in his.

“Changmin, do not worry,” he cries, “surely there must be some way of breaking this foul curse!”

Thank god for all that fur, or Changmin would be blushing by now. As it is, his ears press flat against his head. He tries to squirm away from Yunho’s super sincere gaze. “I have to find someone who uhm, this is dumb but, someone who loves me for who I am, not what I look like, that’s all.”

There is a pause.

“Oh, is that all?” Yunho tilts his head, eyes wide. “Well, that’s easy then.”

And just like that, he leans over and presses a kiss against Changmin’s snout, mumbles a soft love you like it’s the simplest thing in the world. Changmin squeaks, claws curling lightly at his shoulders. He opens his mouth to speak but a sudden bright light cuts him off and engulfs him. It’s too glaring, Yunho has to squeeze his eyes shut but he keeps one hand firmly around Changmin’s wrist, feels fur retracts and leave smooth skin in its place -

When he opens his eyes, Changmin sits before him, human.

“Oh,” Yunho says, a little breathless. It’s the same face he’d caught glimpses of in the reflection, but never could he have imagine Changmin to look so - good, all long luscious hair, pretty eyes and pouting lips. And now that he’s human sized again, his shirt has slipped off his shoulders to reveal wiry muscle under delectably tanned skin. Oh.

“Oh,” Changmin repeats after him. He flexes his human fingers, and touches his face cautiously. “I’m human? I’m not a beast any more?” Awe blooms across his face, and then Changmin is grinning, so impossibly bright. In a surge of gleeful excitement, he flings his arms around Yunho, and drags the man into a tight hug. “You’ve broken the curse! Yunho, thank you!”

Half naked Changmin is hugging him. Yunho knows somewhere in the back of his mind that there are other things he should be focusing right now - congratulating Changmin? getting him some clothes? - but half naked Changmin is hugging him and his brain splutters at to a halt. Must be all that blood rushing south.

“Changmin?” Yunho can’t help but run a hand down his bare back. He can’t help that the hand slips into Changmin’s shirt and curls around his waist either. Judging by the way he shivers and presses closer, Changmin doesn’t seem to mind. “So do you think I deserve a reward for saving you?”

Changmin laughs, a clear high sound that has Yunho’s heart swelling. “Yeah, okay, I’m sure we can work something out.”

*

Wow.” With a barely concealed smirk, Heechul waggles a finger at them and their states of undress. They flush identical shades of red; it makes Heechul grin even wider. “Now that’s what I call a happy ending!”

And they lived happily ever after.

THE END.

_ _ _ _ phffffft hahahaha, idk. i can’t, idk. why is this horrible hahahaha quality, what quality? halfway through i realised that i didn’t actually know how the original fairytale went, so i just winged it in the end haha. \o/

PS:
Despite not having left the mansion in years, Changmin seems to have very little interest in the outside world. He is much more invested in bumming around the house and engaging Heechul in what appears to be lively and productive discussions.

(“Vain jackass,” shouts Changmin.

“Ugly,” Heechul yells back.)

Yunho lets out a sigh of relief, then promptly sends Heechul to his room, and drags Changmin to the kitchen.

I SHIPPPPPP HEEMIN. ; A ; okay the end. goodnight people?!
